sometimes it doesn't matter where you go
sometimes it isn't how much you know
nobody's standing firmly on the ground
sometimes we lose the things that we have found
kill the greed
that's what we need
sometimes it doesn't matter where you've been
doesn't matter who you know or who's your kin
we need to break down all of their doors
eat the rich and grind them up for the poor
kill the greed
that's what we need

I see the old times rolling
I see inside
I hear the numbers calling
I'm here for the ride
I can't see, nothing matters
I lost my guide
don't leave your bones on deck
my soul's a dirt shipwreck
but then I had to stay
the new times are boiling
and I am well on my way
the season's are changing
but we've found our way
we'll jump in that orange lake
don't take my hand
you're never gonna understand
I see the old times rolling
I see inside
I hear the numbers calling
I'm here for the ride
I can't see, nothing matters
I lost my guide
don't leave your bones on deck
your soul's a dirt shipwreck

the sun don't shine
these thoughts aren't mine
we dance around
what's up in front
they'll take all of ours
all of our souls
our life exists in this lull
we take all of this
and we keep it all
we go far with this
we keep it raw
there's life in this
this open gate
the moon don't shine
these thoughts aren't mine

October 31, 2020: Spartan Jet-Plex: Nancy Grim Kells (they/them) is releasing this EP as a companion to their album Live. These are a short set of songs that were written pre-pandemic. They weren't recorded for Live since they didn't fit with that set of songs. While Live is more of a celebration of life and living, Carry Me to My Grave is a lamentation of life and also of death, but these songs find and breathe hope, comfort and solace despite sadness and sorrow. Kells' music is largely inspired by older folk and blues music, and they quite literally bring in 2 of their favorite musicians via samples (Charlie McCoy and Blind Willie Johnson) on the tracks Shipwreck and Sun/Moon. Shipwreck uses a Charlie McCoy sample from Candy Man Blues. His words Carry Me to My Grave launch the song Shipwreck. Sun/Moon begins with a remix of Dark Was the Night - Cold Was the Ground by Willie Johnson. It then morphs into Kells' folk song Sun/Moon, and then again bleeds at the end into a tribute version of Dark Was the Night - Cold Was the Ground. Proceeds for this EP support Grimalkin.

There is a full visual album for Carry Me to My Grave made in collaboration with Rafael de Toledo Pedroso in the same style as the videos for Live. This time Kells took footage of old country cemeteries near their home and Rafa did the effects, textures, and editing. The intro and outro tracks on the full EP feature field recordings Kells took in the cemeteries featured in the videos. Videos can be found on Gr's YouTube:
